Kieran Mather is a current freshman at Urbandale High School and is a member of the ESports team, and also participates in Taekwondo outside of school. He says the most unique thing about himself that most people don’t know is, “That I’ve gotten my black belt in taekwondo,” which can take up to five years of dedicated training. When he isn’t doing taekwondo, you can find him playing video games, both in his free time and with ESports. His favorite game is Doom 2016, one of many installments of the series. You can also find him listening to music; his favorites are hard rock and metal, and his favorite band is called Beyond the Black, a small German group. And while his favorite classes are Design and Intro to Coding, in the future, Mather hopes to be some sort of metal artist, the music kind. If you were to find him on a deserted island, he would likely have with him a book, his phone, and some sort of water purifier. In the future, Mather hopes that his mark on the world can be as simple as being well-known for what he likes to do. We all know that high school is one of the make-or-break moments in our lives, and while middle school classes help set up what your high school career looks like, what really matters is the outcome of your high school classes. So to all the incoming freshmen, if you take one piece of advice from Mather, let it be, “Actually start trying because grades start to matter.”
