Key Club at UHS is facilitated by Mrs. Melissa Gyure. The group is similar to Student Senate but focuses its efforts on the community. This year members helped with or hosted Fall Clean Up, Adopt a Family, the Rose Sale, the Blood Drive, EL Department Clothing Drive, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfasts, and the Homecoming Street Party duck pond. The group also writes inspirational messages for the Food Bank of Iowa. letters are then put into food bags that are received by students.
Adopt a Family is a project, funded by the profits of the Rose Sale. The group is assigned a family that isn’t able to buy their children Christmas gifts. They go to the store and buy gifts, then wrap the gifts, and hand deliver them to the family.
Like most other groups at UHS, Key Club allows for student leadership. The 2023-24 club president is Angelica Chaisson-Cardenas (Senior), the vice president is Annie Roesler (Senior), and in charge of communications is Tommy Ngo (Senior).
Because Urbandale doesn’t have a Kiwanis club the group’s umbrella organization is the Johnston Kiwanis Club.
