With the WNBA season just starting, let’s see how much things have been affected by the Caitlin Clark effect. In February, Clark would break Fanatics jersey and shirt sales for the Fever and she would become Fanatics most popular athlete. That record had previously been held by Colorado quarterback Sheduar Sanders. But that would end within a couple of weeks with Caleb Williams beating her on the NFL draft night. Caitlin Clark has grown the game so much that all the jerseys and shirts that had her name on it sold out in all sizes in about 2 hours.
But selling out jerseys and shirts is not all she has sold out. She has sold out multiple basketball arenas, and she will sell out many more. For example, her name is so big that for the first time ever the Women’s NCAA National Championship had more viewers than the men’s game. Her name has also made some WNBA teams decide to move to bigger arenas just because she is coming to town. So far only the Las Vegas Aces and the Washington Mystics have moved arenas for when the Fever come into town.
Clark has not just made jerseys and basketball sales sky rocket, she has also made the WNBA a lot more popular. With Clark joining the Fever, every game but four will be nationally televised or will be on Peacock. She has also brought in so much money to the WNBA that the WNBA now has enough money to have every team fly on charter flights to away games for the next 2 years. All in all, Caitlin Clark has changed the game for women’s basketball.
