Headphones have been around since technology was invented and they have evolved into more transportable ways like wireless headphones or earbuds/airpods.
The only difference between an earbud and a headphone is that an earbud is wireless; you have no cord attached to it to be able to play sound through it, but for headphones, you have a wire. This cord connects to another device to play the sound through the headphones.
Most students want to have earbuds in class because they say it helps them focus. It provides some level of comfort, and it also provides a distraction to cancel out the outside noise so they can focus more on their work. But the students also argue that earbuds should only be used during work time, or when a peer or teacher isn’t talking and giving instructions. Not everyone can sit in silence in classrooms and not every teacher plays their own music, so students argue that they should be allowed to put in their earbuds to their phones or computers and be allowed to play their music so they have something going on in their ears.
Some teachers say that kids shouldn’t be able to have earbuds/wireless headphones in their ears because they could be distracting, and the students who have them in may miss out on important information. Teachers also say that students may be getting answers or are cheating in some sort of way through their earbuds, and that shows some distrust teachers have with students.
But which do people prefer, wired headphones, or wireless headphones? Most people would like wireless headphones. Some reasons would be that they are more comfortable, wireless headphones are much more flexible than wired headphones because you can move around more freely and be away from your device, and you can do tasks while still being able to listen to whatever you want. Wireless headphones cause fewer problems for most, and nowadays, you can get wireless headphones almost anywhere while wired headphones are harder to find. Plus many complain about wired headphones being messy and always getting tangled, making wired headphones much less convenient than wireless headphones.
