Urbandale STUDIO is the varsity show choir at Urbandale. They are directed by Mr. Ted Brimeyer, and assisted by Mr. Brendan Ball and Mr. Ryan Orme. The band is directed by Mr. David Breese and Mr. Jeff Temple, with choreography by Stephen Todd. The group shared their show, ‘Gilligan’s Island’ with their competition at Johnston ShowZam!, Waukee Northwest Nightfall, and Hastings Swingin’ on the River. They also performed at four home shows including, their Preview Show, Pops 1, Pops 2, and co-hosting the 41st USCI with Vitality and Affinity.
Soloists were featured to represent all seven of the characters from the TV show. As Gilligan was senior Owen Hamman, The Skipper was senior Taylor Beron, Ginger was senior Kate Pargeon, Mr. Howell was senior Dylan Rains, Mrs. Howell was senior Kennedy Menke, Mary-Ann was senior Avery Clayton, and The Professor was played by junior Alexander Baker.
The Urbandale show choir program allows for an ample amount of student leadership, ranging from dance captains to crew chiefs. The Studio dance captains this year were senior Ben Schmidt, senior Norah Seeley, senior Alex Mackie, and junior Amber Pair. The 2024 crew was led by senior Nolan Rains. It might not have been an official leadership role but the palm trees, sand dunes, and sail you saw on stage were designed and painted by senior Hope Stice.
