Urbandale Clubs!

Urbandale+Clubs%21

High school clubs are a great way to get involved within your school and to meet new people. Key Club is an international service organization for high school students. It helps you get involved and do some good around the school or in the community and have fun overall. A club I’m in is Best Buddies which I really enjoy. It helps you make friends and be a part of something and either way you have a good time it’s a very welcoming atmosphere. I asked sophomore Cloe Wood about Best Buddies she likes Best Buddies a lot,  ̈ I like that Best Buddies is giving kids with disabilities great opportunities to make connections with kids their age because it can be a hard thing to do.¨  Wood is also involved in People PE which is an adaptive PE class designed for students with unique physical and health needs.  ̈ I joined People PE to gain more experience with students with disabilities because I want to be a Special Education teacher or associate, and it’s good to have more time with my Best Buddies partner, too.¨

A lot of the members in Best Buddies with special needs and disabilities are in People PE. I asked another member of Best Buddies sophomore Porter Kimble why did you joined Best Buddies, and this was his response, ¨ I joined Best Buddies because I saw how the kids were treated in school and I know how hard it is for people with special needs to make friends especially in high school.¨ Says Kimble. Key Club helps you get involved and do good things in or outside of school.

I asked a member of Key Club senior Angelica Cardenas what she liked about Key Club she’s been a part of Key Club since her sophomore year and she said, ¨ I like the service projects and the adoptive family and the rose sale it goes to a good cause and the fall cleanup around the community overall I like the goal.¨  said Cardenas, ¨I joined because I didn’t have an extracurricular and it’s a low time commitment but in the end, I liked what we were doing.¨

Being a part of these different clubs has really helped me branch out and meet new people while having fun overall, and I feel that clubs are a good way to get involved within the school if you want to get involved talk to Mrs. Gyure in the foreign language pod she is in charge of Key Club and Mrs. Black down in the library her classroom is to the left to talk to her about signing up for Best Buddies.
